Siemens generate half a million documents a month, which are regularly distributed to locations across the UK and the world. Their production department quaked under the peaks and troughs of the throughput, where staff were either working excessive hours and outsourcing work that could not be handled, or sitting twiddling their thumbs. Despite huge investments in equipment and staff, the facility fell short of the group's requirements.
